Buffalo Bayou/Allen Parkway Apartments

What We Love

Johnny Steele Dog Park – This 2-acre dog park is located along Buffalo Bayou and Allen Parkway. The park boasts a pond, shade structures, dog washing areas, and benches for watching your four-legged friends as they enjoy themselves. This is a great place to meet other dog lovers!

Buffalo Bayou Park – With 160-acres of the park to explore, whether you ride your bike, jog or just take a stroll…it is the perfect place to spend the day. There are plenty of hike and bike trails to choose from, a children’s nature park, and boats to hire if you want to explore the area by water.

Spotts Park – The hill in this park draws attention from fitness enthusiasts who like to run up and down and get their cardio in. This park is also a great place to have a picnic and take in the views of downtown Houston.

Piggys Kitchen & Bar – Great Patio to have brunch or just grab a cocktail or two. This relaxed eatery offers a brunch menu as well as lunch and dinner, so it is the ideal place to spend those lazy weekend mornings.

Houston Police Officers Memorial – commemorates the 113 Houston Police Department officers whose lives were lost in the line of duty. Shaped like a pyramid, the sculpture symbolizes a royal tomb. The Police Officers’ Memorial and surrounding grounds are guarded 24 hours a day. Each year, this is the site of an annual procession and wreath-laying ceremony.

Waugh Bridge Bat Colony – Every evening at sunset, more than 250,000 Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from crevices found in the Waugh Drive Bridge. A large portion of the bat colony remains through the winter months, providing viewing opportunities on warm nights. Stop by and witness this amazing sight, and learn more about the bats through interpretive signage found at the viewing platform.

Hike & Bike Trails – The Sandy Reed Memorial Trail, the ten-foot-wide concrete trail located on both sides of the bayou, accommodates cyclists, walkers, and joggers. The five-foot-wide asphalt Kinder Footpath, located along the bayou’s banks, is designed to accommodate park visitors who want to enjoy a walk or jog.

Buffalo Bayou / Allen Parkway Neighborhood Feel

It seems like whenever Houston is represented in the movies, you’ll see a shot of Allen Parkway thrown in. Maybe it’s because in one frame you can get the vibrant green of outdoor attractions like Buffalo Bayou Park and Eleanor Tinsley Park, with the stately high-rises of downtown Houston in the background. The area is popular with young, active singles and couples for its proximity to both Midtown and the bar-heavy Washington corridor, but all renters will love being in the heart of the Loop in an apartment on Allen Parkway.

Living in the Buffalo Bayou/Allen Parkway area combines a convenient commute to work in downtown Houston with the natural beauty of the numerous parks along Buffalo Bayou. There are miles of paved jogging trails, dog parks, and even a skatepark. Your new home would also be just steps from many festivals held at Eleanor Tinsley Park.
